Between 25 and 29 May, the Prior Provincial, Fr Leslie Gatt OSA, took part in the annual meeting of the Organization of Augustinians in Europe (OAE), held in Ghent, Belgium. During the meeting, the Major Superiors of the Augustinian Circumscriptions in Europe gathered to discuss themes affecting the presence of the Order in Europe today, as well as the possibility of further collaborative initiatives. The meeting was also attended by the Assistant General, Fr Martin Davakan, OSA., who is one of the two Assistants to the Prior General responsible for the European circumscriptions.
Throughout the meeting, participants had the opportunity to speak about the realities and challenges faced in their respective countries, as well as informal moments that allowed them to get to know one another better. Among the topics discussed were the growing presence of religious from other continents who are currently serving in Europe, and the need for greater collaboration in specific areas such as the formation of new candidates.
On Thursday, 28 May, elections were also held for the Officials of the OAE for the next three years. Fr Gladson Dabre OSA, Provincial Superior of the Augustinians in England, was elected President, while Fr Leslie Gatt OSA, Prior Provincial of the Augustinians in Malta, was elected Vice President. During the same session, the four members of the Secretariat responsible for coordinating the initiatives of the Organization were also confirmed.
We take the opportunity to wish them all fruitful work and greater collaboration for the good of the presence of the Order of Saint Augustine on the European continent.
