Between 13 and 17 April, the Maltese Augustinian Friars convened for the second part of their Ordinary Provincial Chapter at the Santa Rita Priory. The session was presided over by the Vicar General, Fr Alexander Lam Alania O.S.A..The first part of the Chapter had been held earlier, between 17 and 18 March.
The second part of the Chapter opened with a Eucharistic celebration offered for the repose of the souls of friars who passed away over the past four years. This was followed by the presentation of a Programme Vision for the coming years by the Prior Provincial. The document focused on three key themes: Communion, identified as the primary project; Mission, outlining five pastoral priorities; and Future, centred on forward-looking planning and the development of sustainable structures. After extensive discussion in both working groups and plenary assembly, the document was unanimously approved.
During the Chapter, the Assembly also issued a statement conveying a clear call for peace and expressing full solidarity and steadfast support for Pope Leo XIV, affirming his consistent and unwavering message of peace. Discussions continued throughout the sessions, addressing a range of themes and proposals relevant to the life and mission of the Province.
The Chapter concluded on Friday April 17 with the formal reading and approval of the Acts at St Augustine Hall in Valletta. A closing Mass was then celebrated by the Vicar General at the Parish Church of St Augustine. A large number of lay collaborators from across the Province joined the friars for the celebration, which was followed by a reception at the priory.
