Preparation for the Ordinary Provincial Chapter 2026

In recent weeks, the Augustinian friars have gathered on two occasions as part of their preparation for the Ordinary Provincial Chapter 2026. On 25 January, a meeting was held during which the Provincial, Fr. Leslie Gatt, presented several points for reflection together with proposals to be discussed at the Chapter. Those present were invited to contribute through an open discussion that followed the presentation. A second meeting took place on 25 February. This gathering had a spiritual focus, with the Friars sharing reflections on the Gospel and spending time together in Eucharistic adoration.

In recent days, the Provincial also made a fraternal visit to each community, meeting personally with every friar. These encounters were primarily moments of attentive listening, especially in view of the vision program to be presented at the Chapter and the discussions that will follow. All the friars have also received the relevant documents, including reports on what has been accomplished over the past four years and the proposals to be discussed.

The next event will be a Prayer Vigil on Monday, 16 March, at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of St Nicholas of Tolentino in Tarxien. Held on the eve of the opening of the Chapter, the Vigil is open to all who wish to join the friars in prayer. A celebration of the Eucharist will precede the Vigil. The Provincial Chapter will officially open on Tuesday, 17 March, beginning with the celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass will be presided over by the Assistant General, Fr. Martin Davacan, who will also preside over the first part of the Chapter as Delegate of the Prior General.
