Camino de Santiago preparation days

As our walk to Santiago approaches, many of us have begun preparing in different ways; testing new equipment, going on daily walks, and getting ready for the spiritual side of the journey. At the same time, a 10 day trip means long days together, moments of tiredness, and times when we won’t be at our best. To understand what this might feel like, we spent two days together as a group on the 1st and 2nd of May.

We began with a 20km hike from the Chapel of Our Lady of Divine Providence in Siġġiewi. The first 30 minutes were in silence, giving us space to reflect. I felt genuinely happy surrounded by nature, broad bean plants in the fields, spring flowers, and untouched areas that reminded me how grateful I am for the beauty that still remains in Malta. Our route took us through Ġebel Ċiantar, Dingli Cliffs, Buskett, and back to the chapel, sharing conversations, laughter, and more serious moments along the way.

Afterwards, we relaxed with tea, snacks, and activities that helped us connect more deeply. The next morning, we walked from Pietà to Pembroke and up to Għargħur’s Top of the World, walking part of the Victoria Lines. Starting the day slightly tired showed us what back to back walking will feel like. Despite my worries, the journey felt easier than expected, and now I’m more excited than ever to get on that plane.
