Pope Leo XIV has just nominated our brother Mons. Luis Marin de San Martin OSA as Elimosinier, or rather, Prefect of the Decastery for the Service of Charity. Until now, Mons. Luis Marin served the church as undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops. Before this appointment, he served as one of the Assistants to the Prior General of the Augustinian Order and was responsible for the region of Southern Europe, namely Malta, Italy and Spain. In that office he visited Malta various times.
Mons. Luis Marin, was born in Madrid, Spain on 21 August 1961. He made his first profession in the Order of Saint Augustine on 5 September 1982 and his Solemn Profession on 1 November 1985. He was ordained a priest on 4 June 1988. After his studies, he obtained a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid. Over the years, he served as: Formator at Los Negrales (1996-1999); Provincial Councillor (1999-2002); Prior of the Monastery of Santa María de La Vid (2002-2008); and Professor of Theology at the Augustinian Centers of Los Negrales, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, and Valladolid. Along those years, he has been invited several times as a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of Northern Spain in Burgos. He has also served as General Archivist of the Order, Assistant to the Prior General, and President of the Institute of Spirituality of the Order. On 6 February 2021, Pope Francis nominated him titular bishop of Suliana and Undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops. He was ordained bishop on 11 April of the same year.
