This year, the Augustinian Provincial Commission for the Laity once again organized the Augustinian Family Feast. It took place on Saturday, 7th June 2025. The aim of this event was to bring together the lay members affiliated with us Augustinians in Malta and Gozo, so they could pray, enjoy themselves in a relaxing and beautiful environment, and above all, grow in friendship and communion with one another.
The previous activity was held at our Augustinian Church in Paceville on 7th May 2025. On that day, the laity attended a reflection meeting focusing on biblical figures who are symbols of hope. Since the Conclave of Cardinals was taking place at the time, prayers were offered for the election of a new Pope. The Lord heard our prayers because the following day, Thursday, 8th May, not only was a new Pope elected, but he was also an Augustinian – Father Robert Francis Prevost, who took the name Leo XIV.
The Augustinian Family Feast 2025 began with a votive Mass for the intentions of Pope Leo XIV. This was celebrated at the Parish Church of Jesus of Nazareth in Sliema by the Provincial, Fr. Leslie Gatt OSA.
After the Mass, the laity went on a Harbour Cruise around Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour. During the cruise, participants were served coffee or tea and a snack. From Sliema, the group proceeded to Birgu, where we enjoyed a meal together at one of the restaurants along the Birgu Waterfront. We were over a hundred people. Everyone had a wonderful time during this unique Augustinian Family Feast.
I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the members of the Augustinian Provincial Commission for the Laity, who did everything possible to make this activity a success and fulfill its purpose – to gather a large number of lay people affiliated with the Augustinians.
