In the celebration of Tuesday 25th March morning’s mass, the Community of the House for retired Clergy in Birkirkara, together with the Augustinian Community gave thanks to the Lord on the 75th anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Fr. Ġulju Bonniċi. Fr. Ġulju was born in Valletta almost a hundred years ago and began his novitiate in the Order of Saint Augustine on the 23rd November 1941. The following year he made his Simple Profession of the Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. On that day he started to live his religious consecration and so he did along these last 83 years.
Father Ġulju was ordained a Priest at St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta on 25 March 1950 together with his companion in formation the late Father Prospero Grech who was later created Cardinal. Over the years he lived his priestly ministry in various realities, including Tarxien, St Julian’s, St Augustine College, The United States, and for many years in Valletta. Father Ġulju, who is the oldest priest in Malta, is currently recovered at the Christus Sacerdos Home in Birkirkara.
We wish him all the best of health and peace at heart.
