Witness of Sainthood

The legacy left by St. Augustine is not limited solely to his wisdom and writings, but above all to the example his life and spirituality. This powerful experience of God’s presence in his life was converted into a powerful experience of communion with those that he lived within the monasteries that he founded.

This heritage was passed on by the Church to the Augustinian Order to be lived and relayed, above all, by means of the life and the men and women of the Order. Across the centuries many were those who lived in full this ideal of community life and service to the Church: male religious brothers, nuns who led a contemplative life, nuns who lead an active life and lay Augustinians. The Church recognized the value and saintly testimony of some of these and offers them to the faithful as an example and intercessors before God.

The Augustinian Order, from the earliest times, has worshipped the Virgin Mary under different titles:

The Church recognized the value and saintly testimony of some of these and offers them to the faithful as an example and intercessors before God

Holy Virgin of Consolation, or Of the Belt (patron of the Order) The Virgin Mary of Grace, The Virgin Mary of Succour and Our Lady of Good Counsel.

St. Joseph, the betrothed of the Virgin Mary, has been recognised as the protector of the Augustinian Order since 1722. The devotion towards him in the Augustinian Order is a very early one.

This is the list of Saints, and holy people servants of God, all members of the Augustinian family over the years.
