The Saint Augustine Priory of Valletta in collaboration with the Fondazzjoni Soċjo-Kulturali Ambjentali Augustina are approaching the completion of the extensive restoration project of the beutiful Priory on the site that the Augustinian friars owned since the establishment of the new City, Valletta in the late 16th Century. On Saturday 5 October, during the Notte Bianca, the Project was reopened after years of work and restoration both on the exterior facades, but also on several other spaces that will soon be enjoyed by the public while being used for various initiatives. Of particular interest are the remains of the first Church and Priory that were built by architect Glormu Cassar more than 400 years ago and parts of which were found when the garden of the same Priory was recently excavated. Another interesting space is the shelter that was dug during the second world war and in which so many people were given shelter by the Friars themselves.
The response of so many people who visited these spaces on the night of the Notte Bianca was very positive and encouraging. The official opening of The St Augustine Priory Interpretation Center will take place in the coming weeks.
