In the afternoon of Monday 30 December 2019 His Eminence Cardinal Prospero Grech, an Augustinian, was called to eternal rest to join our Father in heaven.
Cardinal Grech had just attained the venerable age of 94 years on Christmas eve. That same day he con-celebrated midnight Mass presided by His Holiness Pope Francis at St. Peters’ Basilica. Right up to the eve of his death he resided for many years at the St. Monica Augustinian International College, Rome. He left behind a host of persons who sorrowfully mourn his loss and are grateful for all that he was and all that he fulfilled during his lifetime.
There is no doubt that Cardinal Grech will be remembered in the academic world for his wisdom and as a great and profuse contributor to both the Augustinian family and to the Church in general. Above all, he was a person who generated a sympathetic smile from all whom he met. We pray for his soul that God will grant him the reward he deserves for all his work during his lifetime.
The Maltese Augustinian Province, to which he belonged, joins the entire Augustinian Order and also his family in sharing this sorrowful moment brought about by his demise.
May God grant him eternal rest and may the light shine upon him, Amen.
