What is Restless Hearts?
Restless Hearts is a journey of faith for young adults organised by the Augustinian Friars and Augustinian Youths. It consists of 10 weekly sessions offering a space to meet others, share a meal, talk openly and explore some of the deeper questions about life and faith.It is not simply another course or series of talks. It is an opportunity to search, question, reflect and journey together.
Who is it for?
The invitation is open to all young adults aged 18–35.
You do not need to be actively involved in the Church or have everything figured out about your faith. You might already believe, be rediscovering your faith, be searching for something deeper, have questions or doubts, or simply be curious. You can come as you are.
What kind of questions will we explore?
We will explore questions about both life and faith, including:
Who am I? What am I looking for? What gives meaning to my life? Where is God in all of this? Who is Jesus? Why did He die? How can I have faith? Why and how should I pray? How can I understand the Bible? Who is the Holy Spirit? How does God guide us?
There will be space not only for answers, but also for questions, conversation, personal experiences and reflection.
Is it similar to the Alpha Course?
The journey is inspired by a number of themes explored in the Alpha Course, but they will be approached particularly through the reality and experiences of young adults today. The aim is not simply to learn information about Christianity, but to explore what faith might mean in our own lives.
Why the name “Restless Hearts”?
The name is inspired by St Augustine, who spent much of his youth searching for happiness, love, friendship, truth and meaning.His own restlessness eventually became part of his journey towards God. He famously expressed this experience in the words: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” We believe our questions and restlessness do not have to be obstacles to faith. Sometimes, they are precisely where the journey begins.
What happens during a typical session?
Each session will be a relaxed opportunity to meet, share a meal, explore a theme and talk together. This is not about someone speaking while everyone else simply listens. There will be opportunities for conversation, questions and sharing — without pressure to speak or have the “right” answers.
Why is community so important?
Because faith is not meant to be discovered alone. An important part of Restless Hearts is meeting other young adults, getting to know one another and discovering what it means to walk alongside others. Sometimes the first step in finding our way is simply discovering that we do not have to walk alone.
Do I need to be religious to join?
No. You are welcome whether you are already involved in the Church, rediscovering your faith, unsure about what you believe, searching for something deeper or simply curious. There is no expectation that you arrive with all the answers. Bring your questions too.
Who is organising it?
Restless Hearts is organised by the Augustinian Friars together with Augustinian Youths, as part of their commitment to accompany young adults and create spaces where life and faith can be explored openly, honestly and within a community.
When and where will it take place?
The journey begins on Friday, 2 October at 8.00pm at the Augustinians in Pietà. There will be 10 sessions, held every Friday, and parking is available.
