This last month was extremely hot and very humid. Even Cubans were finding it difficult to breath.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of September the national TV began to warn the population about the arrival of Irma, a huge hurricane of great magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>Here they have an excellent meteorological institute that is really up to date and that informs the people almost every hour about the development of the phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>We were told, before its arrival, that most probably it will c<b>ross the whole country<\/b>, so everyone had to be ready to face the event. We seldom have hurricanes in the province of La Havana, but this time it was different.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/AGnOrTxR61sSsAFGMFwzaEDq6nm2T65BTACYFmvvym5rJR__FXfout4R8j1BdE_RtHxWBeXzRXr1liwOnHJkToMoyeP05Ujw3RCosk-H56b_skj72nQRkNU12za-fvGkgPW3FUKYll7uXC0=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/69e9cff2101\/3c804110-e6dc-4dc1-8118-dcadf0f3afc6.png\" width=\"270\" height=\"174\" name=\"m_136467701860288738_m_-4169284962554513148_m_2260190528287427447_ACCOUNT.IMAGE.630\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Irma\u00a0<b>arrived in Cuba<\/b>, in the south, on the\u00a0<b>4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of September\u00a0<\/b>and went through the Provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Holguin the following days.<\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div>Here, in our house, we have now a pre-novice from La Havana and two aspirants, one from Santiago de Cuba and the other from Holguin. When these last two phoned home they were told that their regions were not greatly affected.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>In the province of Holguin we have as well \u00a0<b>a community in Puerto Padre<\/b>\u00a0and several chapels and mission houses in the adjacent countryside.<\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div>Fr. Miguel Angel was alone in Puerto Padre when the hurricane went over them. Our Delegate, Fr. Aldo, who kept phone contact with him, was told that \u00a0<b>our house in Puerto Padre was not affected<\/b>, but the \u00a0<b>strong wind eradicated trees and blew up aluminium roofs.<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci6.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/Pu_TjS8g7ZN2svOYUWArEJgx0ZaJmh3W_u1mVLKHhg4rRiPwu9ld1C3gtY6ws6eoBnRewnxCCLa4eAUipnJC-K5xXhE5ZlGgM-hm9gJSWejmBeDmiHsAst6EbLzdDNcw5dQDiux2E1TeJ6E=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/69e9cff2101\/075092d9-250e-43bf-912b-ef16c6c99b12.png\" width=\"268\" height=\"172\" name=\"m_136467701860288738_m_-4169284962554513148_m_2260190528287427447_ACCOUNT.IMAGE.631\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>We have no precise information about our\u00a0<b>chapels and mission houses in the countryside<\/b>\u00a0but surely\u00a0<strong>t<\/strong><b>hey should have been affected<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>most affected<\/b>\u00a0provinces were those of Camag\u00fcey and Ciego de \u00c1vila. In\u00a0<b>Chambas<\/b>, in the province of Ciego de \u00c1vila, we have a<b>\u00a0<\/b><b>community, chapels and mission houses and some of them<\/b>, especially the zone of Florida and particularly the littoral part of Punta Alegre\u00a0<b>were greatly affected.<\/b><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><br \/>Fr. Jos\u00e9 Alberto, the parish priest of Chambas and councillor of the Delegation, informed our Delegate that he, F. We were informed by the TV that Irma would hit La Havana and Pinar del Rio only through its tale and then divert itself to Miami. And so it was.<\/p>\n<p>We began to feel the first effects on Friday in the late afternoon: strong wind, clouds and some tiny rain.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday we woke up with a sunny sky, and the wind was not that very strong. But in the afternoon we had strong wind, clouds and rain.<\/p>\n<p>Around 8 p.m. part of the\u00a0<b>electricity was already gone<\/b>. The\u00a0<b>worst was during the night between Saturday and Sunday<\/b>, hitting strongly the central part of La Havana.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/vSGzReFdNXjCjve42T8eVMeOT9iUJEhF_0P1AF7BYiMZ5oa2-7WDfNm1plP6Zu19gT1VTmOvnhVihZWilsqRI-g9CiaYJWVCYY5w70e3FnYgwgzZMW_vcKJq3fWoERL4l9Y4t1rofNub2Bc=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/69e9cff2101\/a9a924ff-76b1-45d6-b01a-41de19605a68.png\" width=\"278\" height=\"180\" name=\"m_136467701860288738_m_-4169284962554513148_m_2260190528287427447_ACCOUNT.IMAGE.633\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<div>\n<div>Irma entered our city through the Malec\u00f3n (the Strand) with\u00a0<b>waves rising up to ten meters<\/b>\u00a0<strong>c<\/strong><b>ausing floods<\/b>\u00a0in the littoral parts of the city, wind blowing about 260 mph eradicating trees, electricity poles and the newly installed lamps.<\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div>Wind continued to blow on Sunday\u00b4s morning accompanied with some rain. In order to avoid unnecessary inconveniences for our parishioners, Fr. Aldo, our parish priest, decided to suspend the 11 a.m. parish mass.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Around 3 p.m. all was over.<b>\u00a0<\/b><b>Now we are coming back to normal\u00a0<\/b>and once again Cubans are in the streets chatting, singing and none of them lamenting about Irma destructive effects.<\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div>Streets are being cleaned, electricity, at least in our zone, has been totally restored, schools have resumed their course and shops have once again opened their doors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><b>We awaited Jos\u00e9<\/b>, but people did not seem to be preoccupied, since it was only category two.<\/div>\n<div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>Surely there is no way to give up our enthusiasm to serve humbly the Church, the Order and the Cuban
